Nau mai, haere mai
Welcome
MachenTagar Research Institute advances interdisciplinary research in accommodation studies, legal technology, veterans' advocacy, housing policy, and AI ethics. Our New Zealand presence extends this work to Aotearoa — grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Human Rights Act 1993, and the NZ Bill of Rights Act 1990.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi
MachenTagar acknowledges Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the founding document of Aotearoa New Zealand. Our tools, methodologies, and resources are provided free, in perpetuity, to Maori communities. Full data sovereignty is guaranteed. Maori communities retain complete control over their data, their narratives, and their use of any MachenTagar resource. No exceptions.
The Banting Principle
Institutions pay. People are free. Always.
Every tool, methodology, and resource produced by MachenTagar follows this principle. Veterans, tenants, Maori and Pasifika communities, and individual researchers access our entire platform at no cost. Institutional licensing funds the work.
Institute
MachenTagar is an independent research institute with operations in Canada, the United States, and New Zealand. Our Aotearoa presence focuses on accommodation studies, housing policy, and human rights under New Zealand law.
About the Institute | Research Programs
Research
Our research program spans fourteen academic disciplines. In the New Zealand context, we focus on accommodation law under the Human Rights Act 1993, housing policy under the Residential Tenancies Act 1986, and veterans’ transition support. Three novel methodologies — Double-Blind Autoethnography, the Iron Gate Doctrine, and Forensic Correlation Methodology — are without precedent in their respective literatures.

Tools & Platform
Browser-native tools built to forensic-grade standards, with zero external AI dependency, zero data collection, and cryptographic provenance. Our first New Zealand-specific tool is the NZ Accommodation & Human Rights Navigator — guiding individuals through their rights under the Human Rights Act 1993 and the NZ Bill of Rights Act 1990.
